Cultural differences: Hong Kong vs South America

I asked where I could eat dog, cat and cockraches with chocolate sirup for desert; I got the “that’s disgusting” face.

It turns out that it’s ilegal in Hong Kong, my question was half-serious.

Seven years ago, I visited Hong Kong, I have been to the same places I was seven years ago, The buildings haven’t change too much, however my point of view on things is so different…

Seven years ago, I went to the same restaurant, I don’t even know how many times, this restaurant work like this (many others aswell):

They have these ladies with a mobile car inside the restaurant, the car is full with all kind of food, but I guess it’s divided by category, which means, they put the same kind of food on one car, so they would have “fried food car”, “whatever car”.

I was so impress by this model, but how the fuck did I miss that seven years ago, where I was?

Anyway there’s no point to cry over spilled milk, what’s done is done.

Also my cousin english is way better now, and so is mine, communication is powerful!

They don’t use plastic bags, they introduced a law a year ago, now if you go to the supermarket, you must bring your own bag (Usually “Green bags”, what impress me about this, is not the law itself. What really impress me is how well this work here. I think this should be worldwide. I wonder how something like this would work in the 3rd world, Venezuela for example…

Cleaning the dishes with tea/hot water before you eat. Ok, I was well aware of this, I have seen my own father do that in Venezuela, for some reason when he did I thought it was normal, but it was only normal because I saw it before, although if you look from the outside is very unorthodox. Specially when you see them cleaning it with tea.

My cousin was born in Hong Kong, but went to college in Australia, his perspective about the “western” world is very interesting to me, he told me that before getting used to it, he thought every western face looked the same. Western people, on the other hand, think that asians look the same. I don’t think is because of racism, I thought that was racist, but now i am conviced It’s not.

These are the few cultural diferences I have, will be bloggin soon!
